WHAT TO SEE?

How it works...

Luxor is divided in two parts by the Nil River : the East bank and the West bank.

Its very easy to cross the Nile at any time. There is the public ferry boat or private motor boats or felucca to cross the river in the day or in the night in a few minutes.

The East bank

On the East bank you will find the admnistratives services, the heart of the city, and the souks.

The most important temples of the East Bank are :

Karnak temple

Luxor temple.

The museums are also on the East bank :

Momification museum

and Karnak museum (inside Karnak temple)

Crossing the Nil

The West bank

Valley of the Kings, Valley of the Queens, the Valley of the Nobles, the handworkers village show some very interesting tombs with magnificent paintings. The tomb of Tutankhamon in the Valley of the Kings is world famous.

The temples of Hatshepsut, Medinet Habu and the Ramesseum, the temple of Seti the first are smaller than the temple of Karnak, but they are also beautiful and pleasant to visit as much less frequented by tourists.

Many other temples and tombs discovered more recently and less famous are now open to the public.

The small villages of Qurna and Gezira are also on the west bank.
